Head lice are tiny insects. They are parasites that live primarily on the scalp and in human hair. Head lice infestations are common, particularly in schools and nurseries, and can be an unpleasant problem for childcare staff, parents and, above all, the affected children.

Head lice are often noticed because they cause intense itching. Treatment consists of using appropriate head lice products and combing wet hair thoroughly with a fine-toothed lice comb.

 

You can make an important contribution to preventing the spread of head lice by checking your child regularly for signs of infestation, as head lice can be passed from one person to another.

 

You should always act promptly and treat affected children carefully without delay. It is also important to inform the childcare setting (e.g. nursery, school or after-school club) and any close personal contacts as soon as possible.
